Fans of Marvel slot games should hurry to their favorite Playtech-powered online casinos - because they only have a few short days before the slots are removed from the gaming sites for good.
On April 1st, Playtech's licensing deal with Marvel Entertainment ends, and by that time, licensees of the software group have been requested to remove game content. Slots that are centered around superheroes such as Iron Man, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, will be purged from licensees' websites by the end of the month.
According to CalvinAyre.com, a number of affiliates have been told that Playtech would be "removing their Marvel-branded games on March 31st". As such, affiliates will need to remove all their promotional materials pertaining to the Marvel brand by April 1st.
Disney Moves Away from Online Gambling
The ball to purge Playtech casinos from Marvel characters was set in motion when the Disney conglomerate purchased Marvel Entertainment in 2009.
With Disney's attempts to remain a wholesome, family-friendly brand, the group decided that it the right thing to do was to discontinue "plans to initiate or renew slot machine licensing arrangements" with Playtech.
Playtech Signs with Warner Bros
It didn't take Playtech very long to find an alternative to its popular superhero brand. Last year, the company inked a deal with Warner Bros Consumer Products, owners of DC Comics characters, including Batman and Superman.
At the time, Pam Lifford, president of Warner Bros. Consumer Products, said: "We're excited to grow our DC-branded offerings with Playtech and showcase many of DC's iconic Super Heroes in these immersive, action-packed games. This collaboration speaks to our commitment to engage with fans in the growing gaming space and continue to offer players an on-going entertainment experience around the world."
In February this year, Playtech expanded its deal with Warner Bros and many new games have been introduced in recent months, based on popular movies.
New games in the series include Batman and the Joker Jewels, Batman and Catwoman Cash, Batman and the Penguin Prize and Batman and the Riddler Riches.
