Playtech Eyes IP-Based Casual Games Expansion

Players can look forward to new branded casual games with the news that online gambling software provider, Playtech, has completed the acquisition of Funtactix. The latter is a publisher of film and TV-based games, delivering authentic casual game environments that are based on entertainment franchises such as Rocky and the Hunger Games.

By purchasing Funtactix, Playtech Plc hopes to increase its market share of the IP based casual games market significantly.

Playtech has stated in the past that it has a long-term casual games strategy in place. The group created its Plamee development studio in 2014, followed by the purchase of Yoyo Games which developed Game Maker: Studio.

Playtech Explains Strategy

Playtech put out a statement this week following the finalization of the Funtactix acquisition. The group's Chief Operating Officer, Shimon Shaked said that the Playtech casual games division had a clear strategy and direction, and management was very confident that it would continue to go from strength to strength.

"The acquisition of Funtactix, in addition to Plamee and YoYo Games enables us to offer a complete suite of content and software to players, designers and third parties including some of the largest studios and brands in the world," he said.

About Funtactix

Founded in 2006, Funtactix has built quite a reputation for itself in the industry for creating movie-based gaming across casual platforms. The group's main objective is to unite game developers with popular entertainment properties.

Many of Funtactix's staff members include those who have been in the industry for many years, or those who held titles in companies such as Microsoft and Sony.

In its statement, Playtech said that it would be making further announcements about individual titles as they are released into the market.
