The prize narrowly beat Net Entertainment's former world record - which made the Guinness Book of Records - of 17,861,813.  In 2013, a player from Finland hit the jackpot on NetEnt's Mega Fortune slot game and held the record for over two years.

The life-changing sum of money will serve the winner well and he already has many plans for the future - including helping family members with medical expenses and treating himself to a new car.

Keeping Slot Win a Secret

Lance Corporal Jon Heywood, a 26 year old veteran soldier who served in Afghanistan, decided to deposit #30 into his Betway online casino account, prompted by a TV advert to try his luck on Mega Moolah slot.

The slot game has been the focus of attention in the online gambling industry of late with the prize climbing at a rapid pace over the past few weeks.

After placing 25 p casino bets on the game, Heywood became an instant multi-millionaire just before midnight on Tuesday.

The winner, however, was forced to keep the news about his big win quiet for three days until the official presentation of his prize on Friday.

"I couldn't believe that I'd won all this money at the time - and it still hasn't sunk in," said the winner, who even went to work the following day.

Plans for Mega Moolah Slot Winner

Jon Heywood's first priority is to help his father who is waiting for a heart and lung transplant, and he has vowed to get the "best medical treatment possible" for the 54 year old.

"Family comes first and I'd give all this money back for him to be healthy again," he said.

In addition, Heywood said that while he would "try not get carried away", with the money, he intends treating himself to a new set of wheels in the form of a yellow Bentley Continental GT.

"I never even dreamed of driving a Bentley," said Heywood, "let alone own one. I've got a Fiat Punto at the moment!"

"We couldn't be happier for Jon - he's an incredibly nice guy and his family will benefit immensely from his huge win," said a spokesperson for Betway Casino.
